Scripts to be performed in New York and Scotland

I have good news to report:

* My one-minute play IT’S THE COW’S FAULT is among those included in this year’s “Gone in 60 Seconds Festival” of one-minute plays, to be produced June 13-15 in New York City. I’ve been thrilled to be part of this festival in the past and it’s great to be back for another year. Here are photos and video from last year’s entry, FISHING FOR MEN.Out of that, the festival producers created this short film version for a different competition. Also, last year I had three scripts in the festival’s UK version. Here are rehearsal photos from THIS IS THE CAPTAIN SPEAKING.

* Meanwhile, my 10-minute play SOMETIMES ELEPHANTS DIE STANDING UP will have be performed May 23 in Scotland by the Produced Moon company. (I’m a little uncertain whether it’s a staged reading or a full production; pretty sure it’s a staged reading. And I’m not sure whether it’s in Edinburgh or Glasgow; the company produces in both cities.) This will be my first performance of any sort in Scotland.

Here are the synopses:

IT’S THE COW’S FAULT
Three chickens and a cow watch a chicken cross the road. Bad things happen. Cast: Four, non-gender. Running time: One minute.

SOMETIMES ELEPHANTS DIE STANDING UP
Two lowly circus workers try to figure out what to do with an elephant dies. An absurdist look at how the economy works. Cast:  Two males. Running time: Ten minutes.

Video of “Fishing for Men” at Gone in 60 Seconds Festival

Here’s the video of my short piece “Fishing for Men,” as performed in this year’s Gone in 60 Seconds Festival of one-minute plays at Brooklyn College in New York.

This is not to be confused, of course, with the short film version of the same piece.

I also have still photos from the same production.

Video: “Fishing for Men”

In June, my short (and dark) piece “Fishing For Men” was performed in the annual Gone in 60 Seconds Festival of one-minute plays in New York. (You can find performance photos here.)

Producer Rose Bonczek asked if it would be OK if she had the piece turned into a short film to enter in the MSN/New York Television Festival Short Form Storytellers Challenge.

Naturally, I said “yes.”

Here’s the result. We didn’t win, alas, but I still like the film.

Earlier, I posted photos from the filming.

Anthony Ponzio was the director; Galyn Clarkson-Farrell was the crew.

Mickey Hart and Collin McConnell were the actors.

My dark piece “Fishing for Men” was produced in the Gone in 60 Seconds Festival in New York on June 7-8, 2013.

Here are some photos, courtesy of Rose Bonczek. That’s Chris Donovan at left as “Sunny” and Mickey Ryan at right as “Brooder.”

The pictures tell the story — although if you want the synopsis, it’s here.

I also had three scripts done in the U.K. version of the same festival; details on that here with a rehearsal photo from England here.

Umm, fishing for men, that is.

I have shows going on this weekend in three countries – the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

* In the U.S., the “Gone in 60 Seconds” Festival of one-minute plays is this weekend in New York, with my piece “Fishing for Men.”
*
The U.K. version of that same festival is going on in Halifax, with three of my scripts: “This is the Captain Speaking, “Three Trees Talking” and “The Whole Wide World.(You can see a rehearsal photo here.)
* Meanwhile, in Canada this weekend and next, I have two short pieces in “Asphalt Jungle Shorts,” an annual walking-tour festival in Waterloo, Ontario (near Kitchener)  in which the audience is led around downtown and encounters live theatre at different spots. My two pieces are “Requiem for a Buzzard” and “Pandora and Shrodinger: What’s in the Box?”

Here’s the poster for the show. There”s also this mention in The Record, the Waterloo newspaper.

Scripts to be produced in festival in New York and Great Britain

As previously reported, I’ve got two scripts this year in the “Gone in 60 Seconds” Festival in New York City — a festival of one-minute plays.

Now I can pass on that I’ve also got three scripts being done in the U.K. edition of the same festival.

Both the New York pieces deal with baseball: “The Uniform” and “Sunset in North Dakota.”

The three U.K. pieces don’t: “Liberal Arts Pirates” deals with career advice, “Busier Than” deals with cliches, and “Scouting Report” deals with buzzards.

The U.S. shows will be June 8-9 at Brooklyn College; the U.K. show will be June 16 in Halifax, England.

Five minute scripts (or shorter)

I have many five-minute scripts available, almost all of them royalty-free and almost all (but not quite) suitable for high schools. Here’s a list (still under construction): Read the rest of this entry »
