Photos from “Svetlana’s First Christmas Away From Home” in West Virginia

My one-act SVETLANA’S FIRST CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME is off to a roaring start. It was first produced last year by Victorian Players in Youngtown, Ohio and this year is being produced twice, by Lewis County Community Theatre in Weston, West Virginia and Red River Revue in Clarksville, Texas. Here are photos from West Virginia. Of note: The Svetlana in the script is a Ukrainian exchange student. By chance, Lewis County had an actual Ukrainian exchange student to play the titular role.

Svetlana hugs the spider.

Another look at the awesome spider.

Lots of kids, lots of costumes.

Poster and set photo from shows in Hollywood

The show poster.

Actors Workout Studio in North Hollywood, California is producing six Christmas one-acts, three of which are mine: THE ANGEL TREE, THE CHRISTMAS GOAT and DEATH BY POINSETTIA. My cousin, Itai Levin, attended on Dec. 8 and said there was a full-house and the shows were excellently cast.

Photos from “Death by Poinsettia” in Maryland

Silver Spring Stage in Silver Spring, Maryland (Washington suburbs) produced my one-act DEATH BY POINSETTIA August 18-20. Here are some photos.

A lonely woman tries to commit suicide at Christmas by eating a poinsettia, and broadcasting it via webcam.

She invited all her co-workers to a party, knowing they wouldn’t show up. But the nerdiest one did. He also knows something she doesn’t: Poinsettias aren’t really poisonous.

He also brought mistletoe. Love happens, reluctantly.

Theatre is that-a-way.

This was the third production of the script.

DEATH BY POINSETTIA

The cast of SVETLANA’S FIRST CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME.

Back in the summer, I was corresponding with a direction at Victorian Players in Youngstown, Ohio. He was looking for a Christmas script, with some very specific needs. He needed a cast of about 20, with mostly kids. I didn’t have anything like that, so I told him if he gave me a few weeks, I’d write one. So I did. The result was SVETLANA’S FIRST CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME. Here’s a photo from its premiere.

It looks like it’s going to be popular because it’s already been booked at a theatre in Texas for next Christmas.

SVETLANA’S FIRST CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME
A last-minute substitute attempts to preside over a Christmas pageant, which has devolved into chaos – unruly kids, a pushy parent, a church busybody, a kitchen on fire. And then there’s the foreign exchange student, who’s supposed to be the angel, who is in the restroom in tears because it’s her first Christmas away from home. Then something unexpected happens. Cast: 21 – 6 adults (four female, one male, one non-gender), 7 teenagers (five female, two male), 8 early teens or pre-teens (one female, seven non-gender.)
* Produced by Victorian Players, Youngstown, Ohio, December 2016.
* Scheduled to be produced by Red River Revue, Clarksville, Texas, December 2017.
