Video: Staged reading of “Miss Cow Pie Bingo”

Back in January, I held a staged reading of my full-length comedy MISS COW PIE BINGO at Showtimers in Roanoke, Virginia.

Here, at last, is video from that reading. (Shout-out to videographer Blake Lipscomb, who stepped in on short notice.)

Melora Kordos directed. Cast consisted of: Kelly Anglim, Tim Kennard, Patrick Kennerly, Nancy Lawrence, Jason Patrick Palmer, Emma Sala, Heather Sexton, Gwyneth Strope, with Luke Clark reading stage directions.

MISS COW PIE BINGO
A Texas mother desperately wants one of her daughters to win a beauty pageant. Problem is, neither daughter is interested. The older one just wants to shoot her gun and the younger one is busy playing video games and hacking computer sites. To make up for this, the mom hires a pageant consultant, who turns out to be fake. There’s also a robot. Comedy ensues. Cast: Five females, three males.

Here are still photos from the reading.

Emma Sala, as Meredith, gets everyone's attention. Well, except maybe her father, who's passed out drunk (Zeke, played by Tim Kennard.

I held a staged reading of my new play, MISS COW PIE BINGO, on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Showtimers in Roanoke, Virginia. It’s a Southern comedy.

The basic plot: A Texas mother desperately wants one of her daughters to win a beauty pageant. Problem is, neither of them have any interest. One just wants to shoot guns. The other is a video gamer. That doesn’t stop the mother from hiring a pageant consultant anyway, who turns out to be a fraud. Comedy ensues. There’s also a robot.

The reading was directed by Melora Kordos.

The cast:

Rhonda, the mom: Heather Sexton
Meredith, the oldest daughter: Emma Sala
Thomasina, aka, Zelda, the youngest daughter: Gwyneth Strope
Zeke, the father: Tim Kennard
Libby, the crazy grandmother: Nancy Lawrence
Debbie, the pageant consultant: Kelly Anglim
Horace, the newspaper editor: Patrick Kennerly
The coffee machine that’s been turned into a robot: Jason Patrick Palmer

Stage directions were read by Luke Clark.

Here are some photos from the event (or you can see the full set here.) Also, some audience feedback is at the very bottom.

My newest full-length script is MISS COW PIE BINGO, a “Southern comedy.” I’ll be having a staged reading of it at Showtimers theatre in Roanoke, Virginia on January 3, directed by Melora Kordos of Lynchburg. She directed last year’s reading of the drama SOFTBALL IS LIFE. (Photos from that are here.)

Synopsis: Rhonda Hardbuckle wants nothing more than for one of her daughters to win a beauty pageant. Problem is, neither of them is interested in competing. That doesn’t stop Rhonda from hiring a pageant consultant anyway, who turns out to be a fraud. Comedy ensues. There’s also a robot.
